ITINERARY

We will leave by vehicle from Cusco to the West, for an hour and a half to the peasant community of Misminay, located at 3732 m / 12244 ft. From Misminay, we will walk down to the Archaeological Complex of Moray, a set of circular agricultural terraces, built on a natural formation similar to a crater. We will learn how the Andean people were able to use nature in their favor, to create different microclimates according to height and use them to acclimate different types of seeds.

After our experience in Moray, we will continue walking towards the village of Maras. On the way, we will make a stop for our picnic enjoying the landscape between fields and the mountain range of Vilcanota. We will continue walking and pass by the colonial town of Maras, observe its streets and houses, as well as the typical dresses that women wear.

A third more of the way down is the Salineras de Maras. We will learn about the pre-Incan way to manually extract pink salt through evaporation of mountain spring water, a method which is still used today by the local inhabitants. Finally, in this place, the vehicle will be waiting and  take us back to Cusco, a journey that will last 1:30 hours.
